Systems Analysis and Design

The book does a series of case studies. I want you to work on the New Century Health Clinic. You should follow through that case study on your own on a chapter-by-chapter basis and make sure you understand and can do the assignments at the back of each chapter. If you have questions, let me know. Periodically I will ask for some work related to the New Century Health Clinic.

I want you to think about the concepts being studied in relation to a business you are familiar with. Read all of the questions before you start answering!

Assignment:

• Describe a business situation you are familiar with. If you cannot draw from your own background you need to interview someone for some assistance.
• Prepare an organization chart for one department or subgroup within the company.
• Think of the tasks performed by the people in that dept – especially the ones related to providing data and explain what they are and what job accomplishes them.
• Are computerized systems used? If so give a brief description of the purpose.
• Explain the procedures involved in one activity that involves providing data to a computer system.
• Do you see anything that could be handled more efficiently?
• Now I want you to prepare to interview someone about one of the procedures that involves data and computer systems. Prepare a list of objectives for the interview; prepare the questions to ask to draw information out of the interview.
